Hello…

I’m an islander, lover of the changing seasons and bodies of water.

I walk, I contemplate, I write, I weave.

I think the natural world is magic and all of us share in that magic,

whether we’re aware of it or not

As a weaver, artist and writer, I began home is an island to share my own exploration with nature and landscape. I developed an intuitive way of working, as if in conversation with place, the elements and cycles of nature around and within me.

Coming from Shetland, an archipelago midway between Scotland, Norway and the Faroe Islands, my identity as an islander is strong, as is my need to be near water. Very recently I came home to Shetland after living on mainland Scotland for six years, where I discovered elements of landscape less familiar to me. Moving from the constant wild presence of the North Sea, small lochs, burns and heather covered hills, I found new connections with rivers and woodland.

The focus of that time however was creative in a different way… I met my husband in Falkland, Fife, joined him in the adventure of building a market garden in Glen Clova, and became transformed through the wild journey of motherhood.

Now, another adventure begins as we settle in to life as a family in Shetland. Finding our places here, where my heart has been longing to return, where our boys can feel their roots strengthen.

Coming home to myself now, I feel the reawakening of my creativity - messages, conversations and stories with nature will flow through me once again to become something tangible - an artwork, piece of writing, or a fabric for everyday use - each piece with a depth of meaning, intention or essence of place which is embedded during the process of making.

Knowing that each of you may find something different in my work, something that speaks to you individually and possibly very differently to my experience while making a piece, brings me so much joy!

My hope is that you will find in my work a spark of recognition, of something about your own nature, your connection with landscape and ultimately be reminded of the threads that connect us all.
