A Peerie Holiday

Last week I took a much needed break, using the time to get away from my usual routine, catch up with friends and just have a bit of space for myself (I love my space!).

Most of the week was spent in Fair Isle. I stayed at the Fair Isle Bird Observatory & Guesthouse where I worked parts of the 2014 and 2015 seasons. It's a great place to work and visit, meeting so many people from different places. Originally this visit was meant to be a couple of days but I was convinced to stay longer with the promise of Orange Whips for a friend's birthday... I'm so glad I did! It took a few days just to stop thinking about work and other things whirling around my head. The slow wifi made this easier as did getting out walking to take in the dramatic scenery.

I don't have much to write here as I really just spent my time walking, knitting and catching up with friends as well as sleep! I was fortunate to arrive on the day of the bairns' end of year concert which was brilliant! They are so talented and played out some hilarious Roald Dahl inspired fairy tales and some weird thing about a hairy toe which I'd never heard before! The next night the islanders and bird obs staff gathered down at the North Haven for a midsummer barbecue, it was such a nice night and a perfect example of the Shetland simmer dim.

Looking over the North Haven - simmer dim. The photo on the right is as dark as it got that night. (thank you to my friend and Obs warden, Ciaran, and his phone for these photos!)

I'm going to leave it there for this post. I'll get together some photos from the rest of my holiday at home week when I spent the night at Eshaness, and I'll also tell you about my walk around Hamnavoe, Burra in May.

Cheerio fir noo!
